The invention of Perm designers, resulted from the PD-14 creation, was awarded with Gold Medal of International Salon “Archimedes-2018”.
One of the patented engineering solutions in the design of the novel PD-14 gas turbine engine was presented by United Engine Corporation at the 21-st Moscow International Inventions and Innovative Technology Salon “Archimedes-2018”.
Straightener blades of high pressure compressor (HPC) for PD-14 (patent of the Russian Federation No. 2613101) was presented to the international jury. Anatoly Tunkin, Leonid Nikhamkin, Leonid Krasinsky, Mikhail Khriaschikov, the authors of invention, have developed HPC straightener combined with the PD-14 combustor diffuser. At the same time, the straightener blades are connected to an elastic diffuser cowling of the combustor, and are the elements of the inner casing loading pattern.
Among the benefits of the invented design are reduced number of structural elements, reduced thermal strain and stress in straightener blades, enhancement of aerodynamic losses in the duct, improvement of structure producibility, enhancement of reliability and lifetime of the whole gas turbine engine.
This structure used within the PD-14 engine can be also employed in creation of PD-35 advanced aircraft engine, the development of which begun in 2018.
The “Archimedes” Gold Medal Award is indicative of international recognition of scientific and engineering potential of Perm Design Bureau specialists.

“Archimedes-2018” brought together more than 250 participant companies from 26 countries and 55 regions of the Russian Federation, which presented over 700 inventions and innovative technologies. Up to 80 % of the presented inventions were implemented into production.
