Perm Engine Companies Presented PD-14 Manufacturing Program to Airlines

03.11.2022

At the International Engine Building Forum, Perm Engines Research & Production Complex companies (UEC-Aviadvigatel and Perm Engines being part of Rostec United Engine Corporation) have presented PD-14 engine to operators.

The presentation was in an unusual format: for the first time not only Perm primary engine developers and manufacturers, but also major industrial cooperation enterprises spoke to the customers. Representatives of such companies, as UEC-VIADVIGATEL, UEC-PERM ENGINES, IRKUT CORPORATION, UEC-SATURN, UEC-UMPO, UEC-SALUT, UEC-STAR, IL – VASO, PZ-MASH made their presentations. Customers got answers to the most critical questions: about the benefits of PD-14 engine, mass production plans, after-sale service and staff training, aviation safety and much more.

According to Oleg Bocharov, Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry of the Russian Federation, PD-14 is the flagship of industry development in the coming years. The government places its stake primarily on MS-21-310 with PD-14 on the wing.

Despite of the sanctions, UEC-Perm Engines is ready to mass-produce the engine. “We are ready to produce 12 sets per year. It is enough to meet the needs of IRKUT over the next year and a half. Further production ramp-up will be ensured by increasing manufacturing facilities. By 2026 it is planned to build new Perm Engines’ manufacturing buildings on the premises of special economic zone in Osentsy,” says Sergey Kharin, Executive Director of UEC-Perm Engines.

PD-14 benefits largely from the digital environment. This is the first Russian engine, which was digitally designed from scratch, that means a paperless 3D structural modeling, creation of electronic databases of engineering calculations and material properties, digital engine production, bench and flight testing, as well as a preparation of soft maintenance documents.

According to Viktor Chuiko, President of Aircraft Engine Building Union, thanks to digitalization, all necessary engine in-flight and ground tests were carried out much faster: “Implementation of this environment during bench tests have increased performance by a factor of 4-6. On the flying test-bed the work output increased by 6-9 times.”

“This is a rich body of knowledge that can be used not only by our Design Bureau for further development of advanced engines, but also by all the enterprises that are part of the UEC structure. An airline companies get a fully interactive set of operational documentation, which allows them to provide better, cheaper, faster services for the aircraft as a whole and the engine specifically,” says Igor Maksimov, Chief Designer of PD Engine Family, UEC-Aviadvigatel.

An after-sales service system, which will be prepared by the MS-21-310 enter into service, will be intelligent system as well. “We have all the necessary software that will allow for a paperless, rapid resolution of all issues. This is the most essential. Anyway, it is important to show the customers that our service system will not be inferior to the occidental one, rather than just to characterize the equipment and engine design,” says Aleksandr Inozemtsev, Deputy General Director of UEC for Perm Engines Research & Production Complex, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
