Perm Engine’s Youth Continue to Build on the Best Traditions of Corporate Training

03.04.2023

UEC-Perm Engines (a part of Rostec United Engine Corporation) held its fourth “Teaching Professionals” forum for mentors and trainers.

The main tasks of the forum are to develop key competencies of the mentors, practice state-of-the-industry formats of on-the-job training, and reinforce knowledge transfer skills. The forum is a field for gaining new knowledge and sharing experience, where 20 mentors and 20 trainers met this year. Mentors are qualified workers having at least two-year work experience in the profession, who have worked at the factory for at least six months and yield non-flaw performance. Trainers are experienced specialists, who give specialty theoretical courses at the corporate training center.

The participants have shared in a business game format the best practical aspects of training the young workers, discussed the most important topics: how to keep the audience's attention, talk about complex technological processes in a simple way, protect themselves from emotional burnout and structure their work so that they have time for everything. During the theoretical session, the aspects of the training algorithm and adult motivation features were discussed in detail.

At age 32, Kirill Gribanov, a V category CNC machine operator at the TBC Shop, has already become a mentor for three workers. Would-be machine operator trainees are on probation for a month in the shop, then they are being certified, and only after that, they start unsupervised activity. This shop often handles a great amount of work on a tight deadline, since the products are then sent for assembly. As a mentor, Kirill has to train future colleagues something they don't learn in a technical school or college: how to work in a multitasking environment. “I teach to rapidly switch over one process operation to another, to use effectively working time and resources, and to control each process in an efficient manner. At the same time, I give freedom and let them propose their own way to achieve the goal,” says Kirill.

Stepan Kolunin, a process engineer of Welder Department, during his five years with the company received six awards for participation and winning the in-factory and city professional skill competitions, as well as the corporate RostecSkills championship. Stepan is only 26 years old, but he has already lifted Nikita Tebenkov, an electric and gas welder of Mechanical Welding Shop, to a win in many professional skills competitions. Presently, Stepan conducts a theoretical course at the training center for welders who will have to pass a qualification exam for a new category. “Both young and experienced workers shall understand the process sheet and act according to all process requirements prior to proceed with any welding job. Lack of basic knowledge results in mistakes, therefore special attention is given to reading and understanding the documentation during classes,” explains Stepan.

“The factory has maintained traditions of production mentoring. They ensure the rapid growth in expertise at the beginning of the worker’s path and continuous development of experienced staff. Such close interaction brings people closer together, helps to maintain employees' qualifications at the highest possible level, which, in turn, increases a production task solving efficiency,” points out Tatiana Snitko, ad interim HR Director at UEC-Perm Engines.
