UEC-Aviadvigatel Hosted 71st Regional Session of Russian Academy of Science

26.09.2024

The Russian Academy of Science’s 71st regional scientific and technical session on the gas turbines and combined cycle plants was held in September 2024 at “UEC-Aviadvigatel” JSC (a part of Rostec United Engine Corporation).

The session was timed to coincide with the Anniversary of Perm motor companies: 85th Anniversary of UEC-Aviadvigatel’s Design Bureau and 90th Anniversary of UEC-Perm Engines.

The event was supported by the All-Russian Thermal Engineering Institute (VTI). This year's session was dedicated to scientific and technical issues of the entire localization, design, production and maintenance of the stationary gas turbine plants in the Russian Federation. The session was attended by specialists from industry research institutes, industrial gas turbine engine enterprises, Fuel and Power Sector companies. More than 100 participants represented 56 enterprises, 34 presentations were made during the conference.

Anatoly Tumanovsky, a Chairman of the Scientific and Technical Council of VTI, Chairman of the Session, Honored Power Engineer of the Russian Federation, has made an opening speech for the session participants. “It is in the national interest of Russia to use domestically produced equipment at its power plants. Therefore, replacement of imported equipment, development and production of our own advanced gas turbines for the power industry is the biggest national target. I wish the participants of the session to exchange fresh ideas, discuss plans for further development and creation of advanced power equipment,” he says.

“The Department of Energy challenges us to ensure energy security of the country and increase in power generation,” notes General Director of JSC NPO CKTI Vladimir Mikhailov. “Perm citizens have an extensive experience in manufacturing and operating a wide range of gas turbine equipment for the power industry. They have good prospects both in the field of new construction and import substitution.”

Over the past 32 years, Perm motorists have developed and produce in lots two families of gas-turbine units for gas compressor packages and power plants rated at 2.5 to 25 MW. As of the beginning of September 2024, more than 1,280 industrial gas turbines with a total running time of over 43 million hours are in operation. UEC-Aviadvigatel successfully implements proprietary repair and maintenance services for its equipment ensuring its reliability throughout the entire life cycle. Today under the “lifetime service” program more than 60 power gas-turbine units with capacity of 857 MW.

Perm designers continue scientific search and development of the cutting-edge products. Maksim Snitko, Deputy General Designer - Chief Designer, Mechanical Drive Gas Turbines at UEC-Aviadvigatel, has presented an information about the results of the work on the development of GTU-16PM and GTU-25PM using a so-called “dry low-emission” (DLE) combustion chamber technology. Both units have already put into trial operation at OOO “Gazprom transgaz Tchaikovsky” compressor plants.

Specialists of the Perm Design Bureau are working on the development of the state-of-the-art PD-14 core engine derivative, PD-14GP-1/-2 gas turbine engine for industrial use. It features the advantages of increased fuel efficiency and service life, and reduced emissions. Compliance of the new engine with the Russian and international environmental requirements is ensured by the application of efficient design solutions, as well as the use of DLE.

The topic of the advanced projects of domestic industrial gas turbine engineering was raised upon in his speech by the following speaker, Daniil Sulimov, Deputy General Designer – Chief Designer of Gas Turbines for Power Plants and the Facilities, UEC-Aviadvigatel. “In September 2024 we have brought into operation two EGES-25PA generating units at Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk CHPP-1. They will increase the reliability of the region's energy supply and reduce the load on the existing CHPP equipment. Fuel and Power Sector companies are interested not only in new construction, but also in reducing import dependence. Perm motor companies has something to offer under these circumstances,” says Mr. Sulimov.

The session included a competition for the best scientific or engineering research papers of young specialists. The winners of the competition were:

  • Nikita Samoylenko (UEC-Aviadvigatel, paper topic: “Ensuring the performance of a free turbine ball bearing for the GTU synchronous turbogenerator drive using axial force control”) – First Degree Diploma;
  • Ksenia Tonkova (UEC-Aviadvigatel, paper topic: “Life assurance of the combustion liner of the 25MW high-temperature gas turbine power plant”) and Sofya Degtyareva (JSC “NPO CKTI”, paper topic: “Thermal fatigue fracture resistance of the heat-resistant steels”) – Second Degree Diplomas;
  • Ivan Zhukov (Ural Federal University named after the First President of Russia B.N. Yeltsin, paper topic: “Neural networks as a means of analyzing the condition of turbomachine flow path”) and Diana Popova (UEC-Aviadvigatel, paper topic: “Analysis of quality control methods for manufacturing of the turbine blade cooling system”) – Third Degree Diplomas.
