Perm Engines Research & Production Complex’s employees (“UEC-Aviadvigatel” and “UEC-Perm Engines” are a part of Rostec United Engine Corporation, members of Russian Engineering Union (Soyuzmash of Russia)) participated in the 3rd Youth LEAN-Championship “Efficiency and Competitiveness 2025”, with the “UEC-Aviadvigatel” team earning the silver prize.
The championship, which began in May 2025, brought together teams from various industrial enterprises of the Perm Krai. Each team consisted of four young specialists and a mentor. Judges evaluated participants’ theoretical knowledge and practical skills in lean manufacturing, as well as their ability to work effectively as a team.
Four qualifying rounds determined the eight strongest teams for the finals. The final competition took place in December at the Perm Engineering and Industrial Forum.
This year, the “UEC-Perm Motors” team, competing under the name “Berezhliviki” (Lean Experts), participated in the championship for the first time as an independent unit. The company was represented by project managers from the Production System Development Group: Egor Kerov, Danila Melnikov, Nikita Katanikov, Timur Bogatov, and Alexander Spasennykh. During the third qualifying stage, the team secured second place and earned the right to compete in the finals.
The championship's final round featured multiple assignments. One stage focused on increasing the throughput of a specific operation, demanding an analysis of the current process, identification of quality improvements, and a presentation of a revised operation process chart. During the third round, teams raced to build a tower based on their captain's silent instructions. The ultimate challenge was to redesign the entire production process of an enterprise.
“The participation in the championship gave us an opportunity to showcase our skills, raise the company’s profile and gain valuable experience. We are certain that lean production tools facilitate workforce productivity,” noted “UEC-Perm Engines” team’s captain Egor Kerov.
The second team named “The Engine” that represented “UEC-Aviadvigatel” in the 3rd Youth LEAN-Championship achieved success – they have received a silver medal in the finals. The team consisted of the head of the technological bureau and the captain Ivan Prokoshev, senior foreman Denis Baluev, design engineer Elena Katkova, technical engineer Anna Kozyrkova, assistant engineer Maria Babushkina.
“The championship became a great opportunity to realize the youth’s potential and show Perm Engines’ employees strengths. Moreover, learning lean production tools both encourages professional growth and improves efficiency at fulfilling production tasks,” believes Andrey Legostaev, Head of the Continuous Production Improvement Systems Department and a mentor to the “The Engine” team.
