UEC-Perm Engines (a part of the Rostec United Engine Corporation, a member of the Russian Engineering Union) representative has taken part in the Perm Business Days forum held at the PRO EXPO exhibition center. Participants discussed ways for large companies to cooperate with representatives of small and medium-sized innovative businesses.
The forum held a roundtable discussion on the topic of Cooperative Chains and Infrastructure for Supporting Innovative Companies. The roundtable was attended by the Executive Director's General Advisor and Deputy Chairman of the Perm Regional Branch of the Russian Engineering Union Nikolai Andreev.
Participants were invited to share their views, so it engaged such members as a representative of the Department of Strategic Development and Innovation from the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation Veronika Eruslanova; project manager of the Industrial Cooperation Department at the ANO Perm Scientific and Educational Center Aleksey Shishkin; director of PERMTECHSPETS LLC Mikhail Kharasov, and head of the Technological Entrepreneurship Support Center Evgenya Belskaya. The roundtable was moderated by the head of the Intersectoral Cooperation Center at the Perm Chamber of Commerce and Industry Yana Astafurova.
“Present days, competitiveness depends on how quickly our companies find common ground, implement innovations, and improve their technological processes. Cooperation is not just a fine word; it is one of the most relevant tools for development today,” says Yana Astafurova.
During the discussion, successful regional experiences of company interaction were presented, as well as practical mechanisms for industrial cooperation that allow companies to find new partners and enter into large-scale production projects. Nikolay Andreev shared his experience in developing cooperation between companies at the Perm engine-building industrial facility site.
Throughout its history, Perm Engines have been an example of close cooperation between the design bureau and the production plant. Previously, the plant's structure of the Sverdlov factory (now UEC-Perm Engines) included both missile production and gearbox production. Although these are now independent companies operating within different holdings, they remain to be tied, share process chains and competencies essential to the operations of all the parties. Despite the closeness in terms of the territory and technologies, and shared engineering culture of these companies, a separation nevertheless occurred. Despite the territorial and technological proximity, the common engineering culture of production of the named companies, disunity still occurred. UEC-Perm Engines and UEC-Aviadvigatel are extremely interested in developing cooperation.
“Cooperation ties for the high-tech production are a very complex process that takes years to develop. First, UEC companies are involved into our cooperation. For example, the rate of the PS-90A engine manufacturing “localization” is 85%, and only 15% of parts and components are supplied from other sites. In the production of serial PD-14s this ratio varies significantly: 45% and 55%. This means that more than half of the parts and components come from the cooperation companies. However, we are interested in searching for new suppliers of certain parts, components, and technological processes, and are ready to outsource some auxiliary operations. In our search for new partners, we are supported by the Perm Scientific and Educational Center, the Center for Inter-Industry Cooperation at the Perm Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and, of course, the Perm regional branch of the Russian Engineering Union,” emphasized Nikolai Andreev, Executive Director's General Advisor at UEC-Perm Engines.
The roundtable participants noted that the development of cooperative chains and support for technology companies today are important conditions for the sustainable development of the industry and regional innovative economy.
