The memory of Dmitry Dicheskul, Hero of Socialist Labor and Chief Engineer of the Perm Engine Plant (currently UEC-Perm Engines that is a part of Rostec United Engine Corporation, member of Russian Engineering Union (Soyuzmash of Russia)) has been eternalized at the Alley of Valor and Glory. This year, Perm engine builders celebrate 100th anniversary of his birth.
Four commemorative plaques were unveiled in Perm as part of Russia Day and City Day festivities. One of the star-shaped plaques is dedicated to Dmitry Dicheskul, chief engineer of the Sverdlov Perm Engine Plant and Hero of Socialist Labor. The official ceremony was attended by regional and city leaders.
“Perm Krai and its capital have always been renowned for their talented and hardworking people. We excel in science, culture, sports, and industry. We take pride in our history and the feats of our fellow countrymen. Today, the people of Prikamye continue to scale new heights. I extend my gratitude to everyone who has served and continues to serve for the good of Perm Krai and Russia,” said Dmitry Makhonin, Governor of the Perm Krai.
The certificate for the installation of the memorial plaque honoring Dmitry Dicheskul was presented by the governor to Alexander Inozemtsev, Deputy General Director of UEC, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Hero of Labor of the Russian Federation, and member of the council of the Perm regional branch of the Russian Engineering Union. The official ceremony was attended by members of the extended Dicheskul family. Dmitry Dicheskul’s sons, Alexander and Mikhail, and his grandson Dmitry, continue the Dicheskul engine-building dynasty.
“Today’s event holds deep meaning for our family. It is a mark of well-deserved respect for a man who made an immense personal contribution to the growth of the plant and the industry as a whole. We carry on our father’s and grandfather’s work: the combined service record of the Dicheskul family in engine building and workforce training for the plant now approaches 170 years. We are proud of our legendary forebear and proud to belong to the great family of Perm engine builders,” said Dmitry Dicheskul, Deputy Program Director for Advanced Aircraft Engines at UEC-Perm Engines.
Dmitry Dicheskul, chief engineer of the Sverdlov Perm Engine Plant, graduated from the Moscow Aviation Institute with a degree in mechanical engineering. He then joined the Stalin Perm Engine Plant, where he rose through the ranks from process engineer to chief engineer. In the 1980s, he headed the Main Directorate of Engine Building at the USSR Ministry of Aircraft Industry, and from 1992 to 1995 – “Perm Engines” foreign trade office.
Dicheskul served as chief engineer—essentially the technical director of the enterprise—for 17 years. This period is still referred to as the “Dicheskul era”. Under his leadership, the plant adopted cutting-edge technologies and CNC machine tools. New production facilities were established, including gearbox, tooling, and rocket engine manufacturing. Dicheskul set up the large-scale serial production of engines for the Il-18, Tu-124, and Tu-134 passenger aircraft, as well as the MiG-31 fighter jet. His tenure also saw the manufacture of ASh-82V, D-25V, and TV2-117 engines, along with main gearboxes for the Mi-4, Mi-6, Mi-8, Mi-10, and Mi-26 helicopters, and the launch of rocket engine production.
For his accomplishments, Dmitry Dicheskul was awarded the title of Hero of Socialist Labor and decorated with the Order of Lenin, the Order of the October Revolution, and the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, along with various medals. He was a laureate of the USSR State Prize and the USSR Council of Ministers Prize, an Honored Mechanical Engineer of the RSFSR, and an Honorary Aircraft Builder.
The Alley of Valor and Glory is a landmark public space in Perm and a living embodiment of respect for the labor, talent, and heroism of Perm’s citizens. The memory of the legendary engine builder lives on and will endure in the hearts of his family, colleagues, and successors.
