The regional stage of the “Striking Ten” championship, organized by Rostec State Corporation, took place at the enterprises of the Perm Engines Research and Production Complex—UEC-Aviadvigatel and UEC-Perm Engines (part of Rostec United Engine Corporation)—with support from the Perm regional branch of the Russian Engineering Union.
Ten athletes stepped into the boxing ring during the regional stage. The fighters moved deftly, landed precise strikes, and never gave an inch. The bouts, held on a grand stage set up in the conference hall, turned into a thrilling spectacle, with every spectator rooting for their own favorite.
Over 120 engine builders took part in the punching power contest. Each competitor had to deliver three powerful strikes to a punching bag. The best of the three attempts counts toward the individual score. The hardest-hitting man proved to be Ilya Mishurinskikh from the aircraft and industrial engine repair shop, who posted a score of 687.
“I've been taking part in the championship for four years now and have once again beaten my personal record. No surprise, really—working out on the punching bag is my hobby. Moreover, the competitive thrill and friendly rivalry with colleagues are great motivators; you just want to deliver your best shot. Plus, my power has never let my shop team down at the factory tug-of-war competitions,” said Ilya Mishurinskikh.
Athletes in other categories are Rainur Kadyshev (non-standard equipment production shop), Maxim Nazarov (mechanical assembly shop), Dmitry Berezin and Artem Agafonov (precision casting shop), Vladimir Goroshenkin (UEC-Aviadvigatel).
Among the women, the hardest-hitting strike was delivered by Tatyana Shirokova (turbine blade manufacturing shop), who posted a score of 194.
“You have to try everything in this life. I once decided to test my punching power, and since then I have been taking part in the championship for the seventh time. My strike gets better every year. I also take part in the factory's sports contests – I love cyclo-cross, and I try my hand at table tennis and darts. After all, a sound mind goes with a sound body,” shared Tatyana Shirokova.
The most powerful punches in other categories were thrown by Irina Budaeva (precision casting shop), Olga Fominykh (machine shop), Olga Knyazeva (chief metallurgist department), and Natalya Vlasovskikh and Elena Suranova (machine shop).
Following tradition, the corporate culture and youth policy department held a prize draw among all participants of the regional stage, and the awards ceremony for the winners took place at the corporate museum of UEC-Perm Engines.
Since 2017, Rostec State Corporation has been running the now-traditional “Striking Ten” project, which includes a Boxing Tournament and a Punching Power Championship. The project has found broad support and struck a chord, uniting thousands of employees from Rostec enterprises and holdings across a wide range of industries and cities throughout Russia. The championship is held to promote an active and athletic lifestyle and to strengthen corporate spirit.
