Four-stroke five-cylinder air-cooled radial engine
In the period 1929 – 1952, the aviation engine M-11 and its numerous modifications had serial production in the USSR. The M-11 was in service till 1959.
The M-11 was developed in the design bureau of the State Aviation Plant № 4 («Motor») within the contest for the best motor design to power 100hp trainer aircrafts (the contest was announced in 1923). The chief design engineer was A.D. Shvetsov.
The М-11 became an example of mass production. Altogether, 100/130 thou engines were produced (between 1927-1952). The engine powered 88 production and pilot aircrafts.
