Perm Design Bureau Presented New Developments for Fuel & Energy Sector of Russia

20.10.2021

In October 2021, a presentation of new PD-14 engine-based 12…16 MW gas turbines developed by UEC-Aviadvigatel (member of Rostech’s United Engine Corporation) for fuel & energy sector of Russia was held as part of the milestone Xth Saint-Petersburg’s International Gas Forum.

The speaker of the presentation was Maksim Snitko, Deputy General Designer – Chief Designer of Mechanical Drive Gas Turbines at UEC-Aviadvigatel, Director of Mechanical Drive Gas Turbines Program at UEC-PM. His audience and at the same time opponents were top managers of the major oil & gas and energy companies, representatives of research institutes, industry and federal mass media.

“After scrupulous consideration of modern technologies of gas turbine equipment development, trends in setting requirements to advanced products, we have come to the conclusion about the need to develop gas turbines for fuel & energy sector of Russia based on the core of the latest Russian PD-14 aviation engine” - said Maksim Snitko.

New gas turbines are based on 12 MW PD-14GP-1 engine and 16 MW  PD-14GP-2 engine and will be used in gas compressor packages for gas transportation and in gas turbine power plants. The new engine can be used for retrofitting the existing equipment and for new facilities construction. The key advantages of PD-14GP-1/-2 are: improvement of fuel efficiency by 6-8%, NOx emission – below 50 mg/m3, service life – 200 thousand hours.

Currently, over 800 UEC-Aviadvigatel’s gas turbines based on PD-90A engine are in operation at the sites of fuel & energy sector of Russia. Their replacement with new engines could have been very difficult and expensive if the specialists of Perm design bureau didn’t ensure practically 100% commonality between PD-14GP-1/-2 and PS-90GP-1/-2. But the main thing is not engine replacement but introduction of the state-of-the-art equipment satisfying current and future market demands, absolutely competitive and completely made-in-Russia, which really matters nowadays.

According to Maksim Snitko, to ensure the maximum comfort of PD-14GP-1/-2 operation, Perm specialists founded the Unified Customer Portal that enables the Customer to get online access  to engine performance, spare parts base, statistics, operation manual in 3D format, get advice of the Customer support specialists.

“The Design Bureau is ready to offer the virtual Operation Manual as a pilot project already, – stated the Chief Designer. – This interesting tool contains training materials and enables the Customer specialist to perform various approved operations with generation of an automatic log and chronometry, with access to consulting, with the capability of inspection for defects and with establishment of the common operations base”.

During the presentation potential customers paid attention to premium maintenance from UEC-Aviadvigatel – the so-called lifetime service with payment for actual machine hours. The companies of LUKOIL have been successfully using this service over ten years.

In the coming two years, the new engine R&D will be completed and Perm will proceed to  preparation of serial production. About 50 billion rubles have been already invested in development of production facilities of UEC-PM – serial manufacturer of PD-14 engines. “Additional investment will be allocated for organization of PD-14GP-1/-2 production and establishment of its overhaul base”, – said Maksim Snitko.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

On the sidelines of the Xth Saint-Petersburg’s International Gas Forum PAO Gazprom and UEC have signed the Agreement of Intent on cooperation in the field of development and mastering of serial production of gas turbine engines for gas compressor packages based on PD-14  core. The document has been signed by Oleg Aksyutin, Deputy Chairman of Gazprom Board, and Alexander Artyukhov, General Director of UEC, Member of the Central Council of SoyuzMash of Russia (Russian Engineering Union).
