Perm Engine Plant Has Launched a Mechanical Engineering Cluster

20.09.2022

On September 1, 2022, Perm Technical School of Industrial Technologies named after B.G. Izgagin (PTPIT) solemnly opened its educational and production cluster of mechanical engineering, which was created within the framework of the federal project "Professionalitet". The base enterprise of the cluster is UEC-Perm Engines. Segey Kharin, UEC-Perm Engines Executive Director, took part in the opening ceremony.

The essence of the new project is to accelerate the high-quality training of mid-level specialists through the joint efforts of industrial enterprises and educational institutions of secondary vocational education: technicians, machinists, CNC machine operators, metal processing machine set up men and mechanical engineering technologists, which all machine-building enterprises are in dire need of today. UEC-Perm Engines is no exception.

“Today there is a shortage of about eight hundred employees. We understand that it is impossible to recruit so many professionals in a short term. That is why we took a new look at the cooperation with the technical school, which in previous years was a supplier of personnel for the enterprise. Now, from the very beginning of training, we are selecting brainy guys, and we provided the technical school with two modern CNC machines to minimize the process of additional training of young professionals in production,” said Sergei Kharin at the opening of the cluster.

In three years, PTPIT will have to produce more than 600 well-trained workers for UEC-Perm Engines. Most of them will be CNC machine operators and general machinists.

“First of all, as a specialist I will be guaranteed a job. I will finish technical school and not have to look for a job. Secondly, under the professional program you have to study three years instead of four years. And thirdly, there will be more young people at the enterprise,” Nikita Seleznev, a PTPIT student, commenting on the new program.

This year's enrollment campaign broke records: eight people per place. In the cluster it was planned to enroll 195 students, but in the end 260 were enrolled. The image of working professions, thanks to practice-oriented programs, is definitely growing.

“It gives the students an understanding of the importance, the rightness of their choice, an understanding of the company as a reliable partner into whose workforce they plan to join. Many began to understand that it's great to be part of a big deal. And aircraft building is a big deal!” - emphasized Vyacheslav Aspidov.

In the next few years the production volume at UEC-Perm Engines will grow several times over, which means an increased need for good specialists. PTPIT has always been a strategic partner of the engine plant, supplying the workforce. Professionalitet program essentially restarts the mission of the technical school on a new material and technical basis, with new dynamic approaches to cooperation with UEC-Perm Engines. According to the career map of students developed at the technical school, graduates of the cluster will be able to join the ranks of professional mechanical engineers already in 2.5 years.
