The UEC-Aviadvigatel (a part of Rostec United Engine Corporation) corporate author’s team was awarded the Perm Krai First Degree Prize in the field of science.
The study of Aleksey Sipatov, Head of Combustors Division, D.Sc. in Engineering, and Aleksey Nugumanov, Deputy Head of Combustors Experimental Department, Candidate of Sc. in Engineering on the topic of “Development and implementation of DLE combustors for 16 and 25 MW industrial gas turbines engines” was recognized as the best scientific work in engineering for 2023.
An official ceremony was held within the annual reception of the Perm krai scientific community dedicated to the Day of Russian Science. A Diploma of Honor, a Badge of Honor and a cash prize were presented to the prize winners by Dmitry Makhonin, the Governor of Perm Krai.
“In the region, 9.5 thousand people are engaged in scientific research activity. We support their developments and help them to implement other lines in industry. We realize that the development of innovative manufacturing methods is impossible without high-quality personnel training. Today we congratulate the laureates, who are rightfully an honor of Perm krai”, says Dmitry Makhonin.
The research of the UEC-Aviadvigatel’s designers has become a significant contribution to the development of science of Perm krai in gas turbine equipment designing by ensuring environmental requirements at the level of the best world standards.
The major design solutions were employed in the development of the DLE combustors. Among them are the principle of dry low NOx emission in the combustor and optimization of the combustor flame tube head to improve fuel-air mixture preparation, avoid flashback into the mixing zone of the flame tube head, and ensure the thermal condition of the combustor components.
In addition, the engineers used a multi-manifold fuel flow input to the combustor, additive manufacturing processes, super heat-resistant powders and in-wall cooling of parts.
Some of the presented solutions are innovative and have not yet been introduced either in aircraft or industrial engine manufacturing industry in Russia.
The scientific research results of Perm designers were implemented in a hardware, such as GTU-16PM and GTU-25PM with DLE combustors that where designed, successfully passed acceptance tests, recommended for mass production and installed at Gazprom transgaz Tchaikovsky compressor plants. To date, the total running time of the units is 8,636 and 1,715 hours, respectively.
Designing the DLE gas turbine units once again confirmed the excellence of Perm school of design & technology and image of UEC-Aviadvigatel as a knowledge-intensive and high-tech company.
